The Souhegan High girls 4×800 relay team, winning three straight state championships, has built up quite a legacy in New Hampshire track annals.
The Sabers added a chapter on Thursday at the New Balance National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Souhegan placed fifth overall, out of 25 teams entered in the event.
The quartet of Elise Lambert, Georgia Jones, Marissa Romano and Jane Leighton was seeded in the slower of the two heats Thursday.
It hardly mattered as they sizzled with a season-best time of 9:25.04, lopping six seconds off their time at last week’s New Englands to place fifth overall.
“The girls ran great,” said Jeff Wilson, who accompanied the team.
