Dozen area wrestlers place at Division II State Wrestling Meet

GOFFSTOWN – When the Granite State’s high school wrestling elite convene Saturday at Nashua South High School for the Meet of Champions, Cabinet Country will be well-represented.

A dozen wrestlers total from Milford High and Souhegan High earned their trips to the MOC with solid performances this past week at the Division II State Meet.

Milford High placed fifth overall in the event, which was won by Hollis Brookline High School. The Spartans scored 129 points (HB won with 206), while Souhegan was seventh at 74.

Milford 195-pounder Dominic Goulette was the lone finalist from the region. Goulette fell to Merrimack’s Griffon Ostrum in the title match.

Ethan Briggs (152), Greg Grenier (160) and Brien Faucher (182) all will hit MOC, having won their last match at states to claim third place with consolation finals victories.

Also for the Spartans, Rory O’Connor was fourth at 220 points, Trevor Grenier was fifth at 145 and Dan DeBernardo took fifth at 285. Jack Snow, who will be an alternate Saturday, was sixth at 170.

Souhegan’s highlights were a trio of third-place finishes. James Raiser (126), Victor Ceballos (132) and Aidan Wilson (145) all did solid work, while Shea Patterson (120) and Sam Theriault (138) had fourth-place efforts.

HB beat out Bishop Guertin Cardinals (187) and the 10 other competing teams. Merrimack finished third (176). Saturday’s MOC features the top matmen from all three of New Hampshire’s wrestling divisions and it commences at 9:30 a.m.
