Solid season finale on mat

NASHUA – Souhegan High School sent four wrestlers to this past weekend’s NHIAA Meet of Champions, and two Sabers found their way to the podium.

Junior James Raiser closed out his year at 24-14 and claimed fourth place overall in the meeting of the state’s top mat competitors.

Raiser, at 126 pounds, came within whiskers of a trip to the New England Championships as the top three in each weight class qualify.

Teammate Victor Ceballos, just a sophomore, was the other placer for Souhegan, which tied for 20th place overall.

He was sixth at 132 pounds.

Also competing were sophomores Shea Patterson and Aidan Wilson for the Sabers.

Milford High had eight wrestlers qualify, including freshmen Dan DeBernardo, Ishan Kanwal and Greg Gagnon, but none placed.

That will conclude the wrestling season for both squads.
