Sabers, Spartans win routs

Saber J.J. Bright had two rushing TDs while sophomore QB Romy Jain tossed a pair of TD passes and ran for another as Souhegan improved to 5-0.

Bright had runs of 56, and 19 yards while Jain hit Cole Manning on a 48-yard strike and Charlie Maroun for 68 yards and also had a 2-yard run just before the half to make it 39-0 at the break.

Connor Cassidy added a 50-yard score while Steven Cassidy had a 7-yard TD run.

The effort sets up a Divison II West Conference showdown this Friday night in Amherst between the Sabers and 5-0 Hanover, which roared past Lebanon 59-0 the other night.

Chris Kotsifas scored four TDs and Charles Urda picked off four Blue Knight passes as the Spartans snapped a three-game skid, improving to 2-3.

Cade Cloutier two TDs, Trice Cote had a TD reception from Urda and

Colton Tewksbury also had an interception. Kotsifas and Eli Tekola also played well at linebacker.

It was 14-13 after one quarter but the Spartans scored three times in the second quarter to take control at the half, 34-14.

Milford assistant coach Rick Urda took over as the interim head coach in Jones’ absence. Jones, according to sources, is expected back next week.

This game was much different for Milford than the previous three losses.

“We were definitely more physical up front,” Urda said.

“The offensive and defensive lines did a much better job of controlling line of scrimmage. It showed.

“Defensively, we were like a deer in the head lights early, but after that we did a better job tackling. We wrapped people up.”

Milford hosts HB on Friday, hoping to reach .500.
