Alley Fortin, Jacqueline Dumont and Casey Milliken scored two runs apiece, and Dumont threw out one of the potential tying runs at third from behind the plate to end the game in the season opener for both. North managed six hits while winning pitcher Brittany Wheeler, fanned six.

Merrimack leadoff hitter Olivia Kapsambelis went 4-4 with a triple, two doubles and a single and two scored. Lauren Gerhard went 3-4, including a triple while Jackson Gutekunst went 2-4 with a run.

‘Hawks hurler Julia Valluzzi went the distance, allowing six earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Justin Grassini tossed six innings of four-hit ball with seven strikeouts while Chad Seaver had two hits and an RBI to pace theTomahawks. Grassini also had a hit and a run, as did Ryan Slate. Nick Duttonand Tyler DeNeill also had a hit apiece for the 1-0 ‘Hawks. Alex Thornton pitched a scoreless seventh with a strikeout for the save.
