Flynn wins MOC title

Merrrimack senior standout thrower Kathryn Flynn was crowned state champion on Saturday at the NHIAA Meet of Champions at Winnacunnet High School.

Flynn hurled the javelin 126 feet, 1 inch to earn the title and punch a ticket to the New England Championships on Saturday in New Britain, Conn.

She will be joined by teammate Siaoli Wright, who placed third in the 300-meter hurdles on Saturday with a time of 45.26 seconds.

The Merrimack 4×800 girls relay team of Grace Corbett, Meghan Glisson, Erica Lane and Callie Dwyer also made the cut for New Englands with a sixth-place showing at 9:55.40.

Chase Sweeney was the lone individual qualifier for the Tomahawk boys, placing fifth in the long jump at 20-2 1/2.

The Merrimack boys will also qualified two relay teams. The combination of Matt Smith, Jacob Marden, Justin Weiser and Joe Eichman were fifth in the 4×100 at 44.48, while Jacob Myers, Sweeney, Weiser and Benjamin Parent flirted with a state championship, but couldn’t catch Concord and settled for second in the 4×400 with a stellar time of 3:27.76.
