Middle school matmen step up game at States
Merrimack Middle School Wrestling team finished sixth out of 31 teams in the recent New Hampshire Middle School Meet of Champions at Kearsarge Regional Middle School.
Eighth grader Gavin Ross pinned his way to a title with one of the fastest pins of the whole tournament at nine seconds.
Owen Forrest, grade 7, earned second place, wrestling five matches in one of the deeper weight classes.
Seventh grader Anthony Almonte was 3-1 on the day with a third place finish.
Hailey Rivet came in sixth in the girls division.
Gavin, Owen and Anthony have now qualified for Youth New Englands being held March 10 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester.
Mitchell Krupp (seventh grade) went 2-2 and was just one win shy from placing in the top six.
Seventh graders Austin Shea, Brendan Curley and Christian McCrady and eighth grader A.J. Lesmerises all wrestled well. Seventh grader Emily Angelo was out with injury but assisted at the meet.
