Before the Keyes pool, there was the ‘mud hole’

Milford’s swiming pool from the 1930s to 1965 was Great Brook, off South Street, above, an area sometimes called “the mud hole.”

By the 1960s, the swimming area was getting so crowded that people feared for the safety of the children.

On June 20, 1965 a modern pool and bathhouses were dedicated at Keyes Park, built with the help of the Rotary and the Keyes Memorial Trust.

Last Saturday there was an anniversary party at the pool to celebrate this town treasure.
