Rotary’s 54th annual swim meet a success

Swimmers, supporters, staff, friends and family enjoyed perfect, albeit hot, weather on July 13th and 14th as the Milford Rotary Club hosted the 54th annual Swim Meet at the Keyes Memorial Pool.

More than 400 swimmers participated, with some 1200 visitors attending.

“It was great,” said meet director Jim Rezzarday. “It cranked right through.”

Rezzarday said even though some teams are not in the GSSA, it’s not stringent like big meets at M.I.T. for example.

“They like coming, because it’s a home town meet and it’s laidback,” he said. “The Nashua Y came even though they’re not in our league and they put their kids in the water to swim. The ones that are just beginning to swim are only in their second- or third-year swimming. Not the high caliber ones that would go to a sanctioned meet or age group meet. It’s just to get the experience. They’re not little fish in a big pond- now they’re big fish in a little pond. They have a chance to place and get some awards. (Kids’ age range goes from 5 – 19 years old.)

Next up, is the is the State Meet, with all Nashua teams including the Girls and Boys Club and the Nashua Country Club participating. The date is August 3rd and 4th. Rezzarday said he expects 535 swimmers for that major event.
