Park to be dedicated

LYNDEBOROUGH – On Sunday, May 30, the Putnam Pond boat launch will be dedicated to former Selectman Lee Mayhew. Developing the area into a family picnic grove was one of Mayhew’s projects at the time of his death in 2017.

Selectman Fred Douglas spearheaded the effort to clear the edge of the pond of brush and dead trees as Mayhew had planned. Three picnic benches were installed with views of Putnam Pond. A memorial monument was erected, but dedication ceremonies were delayed by the pandemic.

Mayhew served as selectman from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, he was Town Administrator in Milford for 18 years and served on several state-wide boards and commissions.

He served in Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division as a helicopter pilot and left the service with the rank of Captain.

The dedication ceremony will conducted by the Board of Selectmen and the Lafayette Artillery Company at 1 p.m., following Memorial Day observances on the South Lyndeborough Common.

Memorial Day will be observed at noon, led by the Artillery Company. It will be a short program with no parade or band concert.

The public is invited to attend.
