Town offices remain closed

WILTON – For now, the offices of the Town Clerk, Tax Collector and Land Use Boards will remain by appointment only.

“We want to open in a way that is safe for the employees and the public,” Select Board Chair Kellie-Sue Boissonnault said at the regular meeting of the board on Monday, (May 17) noting the new guidelines from the state.

Town Clerk/Tax Collector Jane Farrell said, “We want to reopen at some point (in the near future). There are people who want to come in person.”

She said their concern was the number of people who could congregate in the hallway and if the door is unlocked, “we would have no control over who comes in,” or know if those without masks have been vaccinated.

She agreed that the plexiglass barriers are in place and will remain.

Selectman Kermit Williams said there needs to be some way for people to contact the office when they arrive at the door, “a bell or a camera.”

Farrell said she would look into that. She added, “We have been serving the public,” people are registering their cars, licensing the dogs. “There haven’t been any problems.”

To make an appointment, call the town office or visit the town website. Office hours remain the same.

However, meetings of the Board of Selectmen will be now open to the public with limits on numbers and observing COVID protocols.
