New Jaws of Life

Wilton Fire Chief Don Nourse demonstrated the department’s new Jaws of Life during a breakfast/open house at the fire station on Saturday, Sept. 24. Nourse said the device, which was purchased through a grant, is stronger and more versatile than the older models. It is battery operated, totally portable, and can be taken into a building. Older models were connected to a fire truck. The device is usually used to extract people from vehicles following an accident. The event, which featured a many-item menu including Belgian waffles, was sponsored by the Fire Department Auxiliary and was well attended. (Photo by JESSIE SALISBURY)
