Winter hike

LYNDEBOROUGH – Piscataquog Land Conservancy will sponsor a winter hike up Rose Mountain on Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The hike is described as “moderately strenuous,” 4.25 miles over steep grades and potentially poor trail conditions. The most strenuous part is at the beginning with about 450 feet of elevation over ¾ mile.

The event is free, but registration is required and the number of hikers is limited. A registration form and directions are available at plc@plcnh.org.

Parking at the trailhead on Mountain Road is limited and carpooling is recommended.

Trip leaders Mike Royko and Ben Haubrich suggest dressing for the weather, packing an extra layers and gloves or mittens, and bringing a water bottle and snack; snowshoes if appropriate, sturdy boots and traction spikes.

N.H. Fish and Game has gear lists and resources available.

Piscataquog Land Conservancy is located at 5A Mill Street in New Boston. 603-487-3331.
