Hollis VFW offers March minutes

HOLLIS — The following are the March meeting minutes for the Hollis VFW.

The meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. March 15 by Commander Andy Seremeth.

Attendance rolls indicate there were 10 members and one guest present. The guest was Jack Robinson, Boy Scout from Troop 12.

There was noting to report with regard to membership applications.

The following business took place:

• A motion was made by Bruce Moran to dispense with the verbal reading of the minutes, as they were published in the January newsletter. It was seconded by George Robinson and unanimously approved.

• The quartermaster’s report was read. There was one EFT of $6.50 from national. Two checks for a total of $200 from PP awards are still outstanding. Greg d’Arbonne made a motion that the quartermaster’s report be accepted as read, pending audit. It was seconded by Jim Bélanger and unanimously approved.

• The Post received a letter from the Manchester VA thanking the Post for the 44 pairs of socks, T-shirts and underpants the Post donated.

• The comrades in distress report indicates Bruce Moran stated he is doing fantastic, and Dave Larkin is doing well. Andy Seremeth stated his recent bladder operation went well, and he is waiting for the biopsy results.

• There will be no Scout of the Year award submitted this year.

• VSO: Bruce Moran stated he did a “Pinning Ceremony” for Robert LaPan, a Korean War Veteran.

• Hollis Citizen of the Year will be presented whenever the Hollis Town Meeting is rescheduled.

• VOD/PP/Teacher for 2020-2021: Commander Seremeth will get with the principals about the program

The following old business items were discussed:

• Jack Robinson, a Boy Scout from Troop 21, gave a presentation about his efforts to construct a U.S. Flag receptacle at the Hollis transfer station for worn flags. He stated the receptacle will be placed by the bulletin board. Bruce Moran made a motion that the Post donates $105.50 to cover the cost of materials for the project. It was seconded by Greg d’Arbonne and unanimously approved.

• Construction at Memorial Park: George Robinson presented a proposed layout for Memorial Park. The members received the proposal, and Chris Lussier made a motion that the Post sanctions this as our suggested layout. It was seconded by Greg d’Arbonne and unanimously approved.

• Boston Billiards support to charity events: Chris Lussier stated he is waiting for more information about funds and working with Boston Billiards. Work on this is in progress.

• Memorial Day: Commander Seremeth stated he will be the back-up speaker for the event.

• General Orders: As distributed by Department and District and posted on the website, the Post members said the prayer to remember the National Home and prayed for Mark Andrews, who is currently deployed to Afghanistan, that he safely returns home and protection for his family while he is away.

The following old business items were discussed:

• VFW National Convention: Russ Norris made a motion that the Post registers for the VFW National Convention at a cost of $25. It was seconded by Bruce Moran and unanimously approved.

• The following Post members have been nominated to run for the following positions that will be voted on at the April meeting April 19. Anyone who wants to run for an office, even if there is another member who wants to be in that position, contact Greg d’Arbonne to express your intention and which position:

Commander = Mark Tigert

Senior Vice Commander = Paul Ricci

Junior Vice Commander = vacant

Trustee for 1 year = Bob Smith

Trustee for 2 years = David Larkin

Trustee for 3 years = Donald Hurt

Quartermaster = Chris Lussier

Chaplain = Bruce Moran

Service Officer = Bruce Moran

• Home Front Club at the High School: Chris Lussier stated the Home Front Club wants to do something for a veteran, such as yard work or something to help them. Greg d’Arbonne stated he will check with some of our veterans who may need some help.

• Support to veterans in the community during the coronavirus crisis: George Robinson stated that due to the Coronavirus crisis, Post members who are able to volunteer to get groceries or perform errands for those veterans in our Post and our community who are at greater risk from the virus. Greg d’Arbonne will send out an e-mail and a regular letter to the Post members letting them know to contact Greg if they need some assistance getting groceries or doing an errand, and Greg will then send that out immediately to the Post members to see if there is anyone out and about that can do this for the veteran. Jim Bélanger also stated the Blue Bus also is available, at $2 each way of your trip, and you and a companion can ride for that one price.
