‘Governor for a Day’ Student Competition

After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the “Governor for a Day” competition has returned.  The initiative was created to foster civic education and promote youth participation in government and is open to all Middle School and High School students in New Hampshire.

Students are invited to submit an essay that completes the sentence, “If I were Governor for a day, I would …”  Essays should be 250-500 words in length and may explore policies or initiatives the writer would prioritize, or examples of state history they would highlight.

Applicants should also be sure to include the following information:

• Name

• Teacher Contact Information

• Age and Grade

• Parent or Guardian Name

• Organization/School

• Parent or Guardian E-Mail and Phone

• Home Address Number

The winning essayist will serve as official student “Governor for a Day” and will join Governor Sununu for the real-life experience of governing the state.

Students must submit their application by Friday, April 22, either through a Facebook Messenger account (@GovernorChrisSununu), or email GovernorForADay@nh.gov, or mail to:
