YMCA collecting shoes for Peruvian families

Help the YMCA of Greater Nashua make an impact in the Cusco, Peru, community. One pair of shoes could truly make a difference in someone’s life. Togetherhood of the YMCA of Greater Nashua is collecting new or gently used shoes from June 20-July 13, when they will be shipped to Peru to be given to Peruvians of all ages in need of a pair of shoes. Shoes should be closed toe shoes, sneakers or sandals. Flip flops and high heel shoes cannot be accepted. The Y will be collecting shoes from June 20-July 13 at the Merrimack YMCA (6 Henry Clay Drive) and Nashua YMCA (24 Stadium Drive) branches. Leave your donations in the boxes at the Welcome Center of the branches.

This project was suggested by YMCA member Sumeet Salvi, who will be going to Cusco, Peru, in August for two months for a medical internship. As he did research about Cusco, he saw that they have many underdeveloped communities within the city, and he decided that to find a way to give back to these people. He currently has 100 pairs of shoes ready to be sent to Cusco.

This initiative will be through the Y’s Togetherhood program which invites Y members to lead a community service project, outside of the YMCA walls.
