Admiral Forrest Sherman was the youngest man to serve as Chief of Naval Operations and was from Merrimack, NH. He had a long and distinguished career in the US Navy fighting in both World Wars. He was awarded the Naval Cross for his extraordinary heroism while commanding the USS Wasp during the battle of Guadalcanal.

He also served under Admiral Nimitz and was aboard the USS Missouri when Japan signed the treaty for unconditional surrender. He is among New Hampshire’s finest sons.

This memorial was built to remember Admiral Sherman’s distinguished Naval career and to recognize his service and sacrifice for our country.
