Leon ‘Blackie’ E. Dionne

Leon “Blackie” E. Dionne, 78 of Merrimack, NH died at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2012.

Blackie was born in Nashua, NH on October 21, 1933, the son of the late Donat and Sylvia (Cote) Dionne. He lived in Nashua until moving to Merrimack, NH, in 1976 with his wife Carol. He served his country in the U.S. Army and continued serving his country in the U.S. Postal Service in Nashua for 37 years.

He enjoyed life, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved sports, all New England sport teams and was a past State Champion Bowler. He was an Umpire in Nashua for over 20 years and was Umpire in Chief for softball. He loved Golf and his Friday Night Poker buddies who will miss his popcorn.

Blackie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (Pombrio) Dionne, of Merrimack; four daughters, Luanne and her husband Al Roy of Merrimack, Jill Dionne of Nashua, Tracey and her husband Glenn Gubbins of Goffstown and Amy and her husband Greg Wadland of Merrimack; a son, Scott Dionne of CA; a sister, Rita Grikas of Nashua and five grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Kayla, Cody and Lukas.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dionne.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 2 from 6-9 p.m. at the Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 3, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Baboosic Lake Rd., Merrimack, NH. Burial will be at a later date.
