Alfred H. Wenz

Alfred H. Wenz, 84, of Merrimack, NH, passed away on August 23, 2014 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.

Al was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on January 25, 1930.

As a boy he spent many summers helping out on family farms in Nebraska. After high school he took an eastbound train to Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a degree in economics from the Wharton School, after which he headed west to San Diego.

There, he joined his fellow Marines and served his country proudly with them in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star.

After returning from Korea, Al enjoyed a long and varied career. He earned a law degree and was a trial lawyer for several years. But he found that his passion was in sales and electrical engineering, which he pursued at Cohen Machinery for nearly 40 years until he retired in 2012.

Al enjoyed motorcycles and was a founding member of the local Honda Road Riders Club. He loved all dogs, but especially his Rottweilers. Al also loved gardening and spending as much time as he could with his family. His quick wit and gentle sense of humor will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helynne (Graveline) Wenz; a daughter, Jennifer Wenz Benis of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania; a son, Michael Wenz and his wife Cindy of Felton, Pennsylvania; several grandchildren, Ryan Benis and his wife Cortney, Jordan Benis and his wife Sara, Brendan Benis and Michelle Wenz; and a brother, William Wenz and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Joseph, Missouri.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
