Daniel J. Rafferty Jr.

Daniel J. Rafferty Jr., 94, of Milford, died on Tuesday May 10th, 2016, at the Elms in Milford after a period of declining health.

He was born in Hudson, NH on January 13, 1922, to the late Helena Belle (Reynolds) and Daniel Rafferty Sr.

Dan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Baltimore from 1942-1945. From 1952 to 1966, he served part-time with the Merrimack Police Department and in 1963 was the first full time officer hired, and worked for Sanders Assoc. for 20 years, prior to his retirement.

Dan and his wife Barbara spent 35 years in Merrimack before retiring to New Hampton, NH and Lake Wales, FL for the next 25 years, before moving back to Milford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, photography, gardening and talking on his Ham Radio. Dan loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Leonard and Glendon Rafferty; two half-brothers, Oscar and Fred Dube; and half-sister Genevieve Bell.

Surviving members of his family include his loving wife, Barbara (Young) Rafferty; two sons, Daniel F. Rafferty and his wife Rhonda, and Dennis Rafferty and his wife Carolyn; six grandchildren, Mike, Mark and his best friend Danielle Perugini, Jennifer, Heather Greenleaf and her husband Tom, Melissa Radford and her husband Scott, and Christine Seelig and her best friend John Theriault; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial calling hours were held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Monday, May 16th from 5 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Mercy, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack on Tuesday, May 17th at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen.
