Eleanor Jean Farrar

Eleanor Jean Farrar, formerly of Merrimack, NH, wife of Robert (Bob) H. Farrar, died August 22, 2016, at Bedford Hills Nursing Home, at the age of 84. She was born at home in Emmett, Idaho on June 23, 1932, the daughter of the late Ed and Dolly (Wright) Harlow.

Bob and Jean married on October 4, 1952. They met in Idaho while Bob was serving in the USAF and moved to Washington where their daughter, Velda and son, Jim, were born. They moved from Washington to Idaho and then New York due to Bob’s job. It was in 1965 they planted their roots in Merrimack, building a house next door to Bob’s parents on a street appropriately named "Farrar Lane," where they lived for over 40 years. Bob and Jean raised their two children and enjoyed many pets along the way. They enjoyed traveling to the likes of Hawaii, Las Vegas, Florida, Ocean City, Yellowstone National Park and often spent time with family back in Idaho. Their true enjoyment though came from their own home and beautiful backyard filled with flowers and shrubs planted and groomed by Bob. Jean was employed with the former Jordan Marsh in Bedford for 27 years, before retiring in 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Farrar; a daughter Velda Charpentier and her husband Luc of Amherst, NH; a son James and his wife Judith of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren Jess Charpentier, Jason Charpentier and his wife Christine, Michael Farrar and his fiancee Christine, Kristen LaFave and her husband Brian; a sister-in-law Fran Stickney; three sisters Doris Northouse, Lela Palmer and Phyllis Nevers; nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Marjorie Lessor, her niece Brenda Lindahl and her sister Edna Caldwell.

There are no calling hours, and the family is requesting a private burial. Bob, Velda and Jim wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Bedford Hills Nursing Home, who demonstrated such loving care toward Jean over the past several years. Also, a sincere thank you to the Compassionate Care Hospice team who supported Jean and the Farrar family through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Bedford Hills Nursing Home, Attn: Resident Council 30 Colby Court, Bedford, NH 03110 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 18 Orchard View Dr., Unit 4, Londonderry, NH 03053.
