Georgina (Jean) V. Crawford

Georgina (Jean) V. Crawford, age 74, of Merrimack, NH, passed away on November 14, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

Known to her friends as Jean, she was born in Fall River, MA on February 21, 1942 to the late Frank and Marie (Lange) Borges. She moved to Merrimack in 1995 from Billerica, MA. Before her illness, she was the Site Coordinator at the St. Joseph Community Services Meals On Wheels and worked at Anthem Blue Cross.

Along with her parents, Georgina is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Roland Crawford Sr.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the Red Hat Society and volunteering at the Senior Center. She also enjoyed travelling with her son, David, to Europe and other interesting destinations and spending time with her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was a strong and independent woman who loved camping and canoeing trips, traveled the country and enjoyed spending time at family barbeques.

She always put everyone else first, giving back to the community and to those in need. She was a tireless worker, earning the Rotary Club’s Prestigious Community Award for Excellence in the Workplace. She enjoyed life, and it showed in her ever- present smile and sense of humor. She always had a kind word for people and appreciated the care given to her by doctors and nurses, "always saying thank you" to everyone.

She was also a brave and tough woman who fought her disease head on until the end. Enduring treatments and grueling travel into Boston hospitals, she always had a positive attitude, never doubting that she would conquer her disease and be ready for her next adventure. She was a bright ray of sunshine and she will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.

Members of her family include two sons, Roland and his wife Allison of Merrimack, NH, David and his life partner Johannes Kraus of Chicago, IL, and one daughter, Karen and her husband Andrew Vittoria of Merrimack, NH; her seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Meghan, Victoria, Austin, Anthony, Ashley and Kyle; and great-grandchild Nolan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday November 18th from 4-7 PM at the Rivet Funeral Home 425 Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack, NH. There will be a prayer service held at 6 PM during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jean’s honor may be made to St Joseph Community Services Meals on Wheels, 395 Daniel Webster Highway Merrimack, NH 03054 or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 9 Erie Drive Suite 101 Natick MA 01760.
