Annual Hollis apple festival and concert a success

To the Editor:

The 66th annual Hollis Apple Festival, held on Sunday, Oct. 7, was once again a success due to the contributions of several local organizations. Thanks to the diligent planning of Chairwoman Lori Dwyer and the labors of the Hollis Woman’s Club and the Hollis Town Band, the brisk autumnal afternoon was filled with the fragrance of warm apple crisps and the wafting sounds of popular music.

Three additional Hollis organizations helped to make the afternoon enjoyable for all. These include the Hollis Brookline High School Robotics Club, under the direction of faculty advisor Sue Hay; the HBHS National Honor Society under the leadership of President Emily Benz; and the HBHS Ambassador Girl Scout Troop. Finally, two independent community members, Tracey Weaver and Tina Carlson, volunteered their afternoons to assist in this community endeavor. Many thanks to all for your time and support.

Proceeds realized by the Hollis Woman’s Club from the Apple Festival and the Strawberry Festival go toward the creation of three scholarships, two of which are awarded to graduating seniors from Hollis Brookline High School, and a third alternative scholarship which is awarded to a woman needing financial help so she can further her education and/or promote her career. In addition, many local charities receive donations from the Hollis Woman’s Club throughout the year.

The Woman’s Club and the Town Band wish to thank the following area businesses for their donations in support of this community event:

East Coast Gutters, Farm Design Inc.; Hannaford Supermarket; Harvest Market; Carlson Tree Service; Helfman, Lasky & Association; Hollis Auto Service; Hollis Veterinary Hospital; Hollis Family Chiropractic Center; Edward L. Klopfer DDS; Jim LaPeer; Arthur O. Lyford DMD; Dr. Kevin S.
