Cam will be missed

To the Editor:

We, like so many other families in the Hollis Brookline community, got to know Cam Ricard and his family through youth sports … hockey and baseball.

Over the years, we watched the kids grow, excel and become great friends and in that time, we all became “family.” So, this is an extremely difficult time. To lose one of our own so tragically and so suddenly leaves us in shock and in despair. So my son, Ian, my husband, Bob, and I have prepared this statement for you and hope that in some small way, it shows you how much Cam meant to so many of us:

On behalf of Cam’s friends, classmates and teammates throughout the Hollis Brookline community, the hockey, lacrosse, baseball and motorcross communities that he loved and excelled in, we are devastated and we mourn his loss. There are no words to describe his monumental impact on all of us. He was like a brother to our kids. No matter who he met, he never failed to make them smile or laugh. Cam was a high-energy, high-intensity kid with the world at his fingertips.

This is an incredibly difficult time for his family and for those of us who loved him, too. His life, cut short, will never be forgotten. We will miss him. We will remember him and honor him and together, as a community, we will take care of his family, we will support them as they try to deal with his loss … this devastatingly heavy blow. Cam … be at peace and know that you will forever be in our hearts and in our minds. We will feel your presence at school, in the rink, on the baseball diamond, on the lacrosse field and on the trails…

We are incredibly saddened that you had to leave all of us way too soon.

With heartfelt sympathy for Cam’s family and friends,

CAROLYN MCNAMARA
