Shea-Porter steers away from issues

To the Editor:

I read Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter’s column (Merrimack Journal May 10) regarding the burgeoning IRS outrage with a sense of incredulity and bemusement. While I understand it must be difficult for her and other Democrats in Washington, D.C., to keep track of the numerous scandals plaguing the Obama administration, I suggest our congresswoman should focus elsewhere considering her complicity in this matter.

Shea-Porter ran a campaign to reclaim her seat in 2012 based almost entirely on demonizing the tea party. With no documentation, she accused her opponent of wanting to tear down needed government services in return for tea party support. It was a shameful attempt to divert from her record of reckless spending while in Congress.

The fact is, left-wing extremists like Carol Shea-Porter contributed to a climate where, it appears, high-ranking Obama appointees felt entitled to conduct witch hunts against conservative groups using the IRS to do so. It is outrageous and informed voters will remember in 2014, her crocodile tears as evidenced in this column notwithstanding.
