Hussain finalist for award

NASHUA – On Thursday, May 25, the top student athletes from across New Hampshire – including Bedford’s Shahrukh Hussain – will be honored at the Derryfield Restaurant in Manchester at the 2017 Apple Therapy Student Athlete of the Year Banquet.

Two high school seniors, one male and one female, will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship and named the 2017 Apple Therapy Student Athlete of the Year.

Other awards will also be presented, including the 2017 Safe Sports Network Perseverance Award, and ESPN New Hampshire’s Friday Night Lights awards.

“Everyone is really enthusiastic,” said ESPN NH’s Nick Anastos, who will host the event. “To have New Hampshire’s best and brightest in the same room is going to be fantastic.”

Apple Therapy, ESPN NH, and BASC selected the nominees over the course of the school year, naming a Student Athlete of the Month every 30 days.

Along with Hussain, they include: Ryan Vermette (Nashua South), Hannah Rogers (Pinkerton), Patrick Gillis (Exeter), Elise Jolly (Merrimack), Gabrielle Masseur (Nashua North), Udit Sharma (Bishop Guertin), Jenna Chrabolowski (Manchester Central), Jacobee Burpee (Manchester West), Katie Bellomo (Alvirne), Ethan Skinner (Goffstown), Madeleine Hunt (Souhegan), Sam Anderson (Derryfield), and Susie Poore (Windham).

The event will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Derryfield Restaurant in Manchester. Tickets for the event will be available at the door. Live streaming of the event will be available on ESPN NH’s Facebook page.
