Champions crowned on court

It was championship weekend in the Bedford Rec Basketball League.

Here’s a look at the title game action.

Boys Grades 3-4

Cohen Investments nipped Beauchemin Real Estate, 22-21, for the title.

Cohen Investments cranked up the defense in the second half, led by Max Boldeia, Jack Bergeron and Jack Tamulevich. Cody Lyford and James Tamulevich dominated the boards with strong rebounding. Brayden Calkins, Sunay Komarla and Flynn Cohen provided support at both ends of the floor. The winning basket came with five seconds left in the game when Cody Lyford dropped a perfect pass into Jack Tamulevich who drove behind the defense and sunk a shot to give Cohen Investments its only lead of the game and the win.

For Beauchemin, Drew Redfern led all scorers with 12 points followed by Jack Redfern with three. Will Frongillo, Owen Stuart, and Ethan Maveris all hit the scoresheet. William Neikam, Kellan McGuinness, Ishan Jaime, and Peter Alexakos played strong games at both end of the court.

Boys Grades 5-6

Bay Street Family Dental beat Bellemore, 48-24, in the championship game.

Boys Grades 7-8

Anthem beat The Inside Scoop, 35-29, in the thoroughly exciting championship game.

The game featured three 10-point swings. For Anthem, Wyatt Thompson led in points and boards, while Drake Sutton and Yash Sharma were an impact on the block on both ends.

Ryan Labrie and Tyler Doldo were solid on the point. JP Frongillo, Jack Kneissl-Williams, Joey Piacentini, Artem Samurak, and Rijjul Suresh Babu played well on the perimeter.

Spencer Cannon, Cal McAuliffe, and Eric Gregory all played superb games for The Scoop.

Girls Grades 3-4

Wicked good Butchah defeated O’Donnell Insurance, 18-11, for the title. For the Butchah, Julia Hinton and Maile Sirois played tough defense as they help keep the game close early. With 10 seconds to go in the half Sienna Correia stole the ball at half court and dribbled down for a layup and to close the half down a pair, 6-4. In the second half, Mia Lachance was a force defensively in the paint, grabbing rebounds and forcing turnovers. That’s when Clare White took over offensively (12 points) hitting shots from downtown. Her scoring answered runs made from O’Donnell Insurance. Haley Gagne ran the offense to perfection as she scored a layup to take the lead for the first time in the game, 12-11. Midhushi Suresh Babu had the final basket in the game to seal the victory.

Girls Grades 7-8

It was Bedford’s Nail Indulgence knocked off the Merrimack Flamingos, 21-16, in the regional championship game. The Flamingos led 11-9 at the half. Kendall Joyce drained a long 3-pointer just before the buzzer to cut the margin for Bedford. Nail Indulgence went on a 6-0 run. Elizabeth Chopra drained a basket from the wing. Anna Caldwell scored on a break away, assisted by Myriam Ngenda, and Richa Thapa put back a rebound to put Nail Indulgence in front 15-11. Emily Upton, Susan Munley, Kiersten Stewart, and Lillian Intintolli provided strong defense to help seal the win.
