Spring state tourney time belongs to Bulldogs

The Bedford High boys and girls spring track teams headed to the University of New Hampshire for the Division I State Meet on Friday.

The Bulldog boys placed third behind champion Exeter and runner-up Pinkerton Academy, while the girls placed ninth overall.

Zach Verow recorded the lone win for the Bulldogs, taking the 400 meter championship in 50.30 seconds. He added a fourth in the 200 as well with a 22.78 clocking.

Lucien Mumpini placed second in triple jump (43-2.5) and Jackson Wiley was runner-up in javelin (145-0). Aidan Kenny, Matt Flanagan, Giovanni Senat and Verow scored a third-place finish in the 4×400 (3:29.27).

Other scores included Parker McDonald, who was fourth in the 110 hurdles, Parker Joyce who was fourth in the javelin at 143-2 and Will Pagliaruilo who placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing 11-6.

Overall the boys scored 47 points.

Sheridan McGadden had the best finish for the girls finishing runner up in the 100 hurdles (15.48). Veronica Gikas, Hannah Mikol, Brianna CoCo and Taryn Naftali were third in the 4×100 with a time of 50.54 seconds. Haley Schmitt, Lily Mooney, Avery Houghton and Carly Rinko placed third in the 4×800 (9:57.15). Anna Harnsberger ended the 3200 in third (11:15.97).

The top scorers all head back to UNH on Saturday for the Granite State Meet of Champions, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m.

Playoff Chatter

The Bedford High girls lacrosse team punched its ticket to the state semifinals with a 15-10 win over Exeter High.

Seeded second, the Bulldogs will head to Exeter High Saturday at 5 p.m. for a collision with No. 3 Bishop Guertin. The Cardinals earned their spot with a 19-6 win over Merrimack. … The Bedford High softball team, seeded 14th, saw its season end at No. 3 Winnacunnet in the first round,12-4.
