Hollis Brookline basketball earns sweep of Timberlane on Tuesday

The Hollis Brookline boys basketball team defeated Timberlane 57-45 on Tuesday night.

Nick Fothergill (13 points) led the way while Kyle Szewczyk and Matt Dowling added 10 each as the Cavaliers improved to 2-1. HB led 37-32 going into the final quarter, and hosts Milford on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hollis Brookline 54, Timberlane 35

The Cavaliers (3-3) controlled the boards thanks to Elizabeth Atkinson ‘s25 rebounds. Kenzie Day had 19 points,and 16 rebounds while Cassandra Stapelfeld added 14 points.

HB sweeps St. Thomas

The Hollis Brookline boys basketball team used a dominant second half to cruise past St. Thomas 71-46.

The Cavaliers trailed the St. Bernards 28-25 at halftime, but outscored them 43-21 over the final two periods to run away with the win.

Szewczyk led HB with 23 points, while Stephen Giaconia and Fothergill added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Matt Simco had a strong game controlling the boards.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hollis Brookline 77, St. Thomas 40

The Cavaliers had three players in double figures in a 77-40 drubbing of St. Thomas.

Stapelfeld led all players with 31 points, while Brodie Kelly scored 14 and and Joanna Balsamo added 11. Kenzie Day corralled 11 rebounds for HB.

Stapelfeld leads HB in holiday tourney

Stapelfeld scored 28 points and went 9 for 9 from the free-throw line to lead the Hollis Brookline High School girls basketball team to a 54-45 win over Nashua South in the second round of the Nashua North Holiday Classic.

Joanna Balsamo added seven points for the Cavaliers while Hailey Modelski hauled in 10 rebounds.

Jocelyn Chaput led the Panthers with 23 points and Amber Hedquist scored eight.

Nashua North 69, Hollis Brookline 35

The Titans not only hosted the Nashua North Holiday Classic, they also looked like the team to beat after crushing Hollis Brookline 69-35 in their first-round game.

Sara Cordova and Isabelle Dunning led North with 18 and 14 points, respectively, while Jaden Smith was the game-changer defensively. Adaeze Okorie added 12 points and Alana Choate scored eight.

The Titans dominated throughout, but their best effort came in the fourth quarter when they outscored the Cavaliers 20-4. North was also hot from outside, hitting six 3-pointers.

Stapelfeld scored 17 points for HB, while Elizabeth Atkinson and Brodie Kelly chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
