Hollis Brookline girls volleyball splits matches

Hollis Brookline 3, Pinkerton 1

The Cavaliers (5-0) dropped the first set to the Astros (2-3) before storming back to win the next three sets and the match in Derry – 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 – on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Elizabeth Atkinson led Hollis Brookline with 12 kills, while Sammie Sheppard recorded 10 aces, Kaitlyn Johnson posted seven blocks and Taylor Hamel came up with seven digs.

Spaulding 3, Hollis Brookline 2

The Cavaliers lost a close one to Spaulding, dropping their first match of the season on Friday. Game scores were 25-27, 25-20, 26-24, 17-25 and 20-18.

Elizabeth Atkinson and Maddie Norris led the way for Hollis Brookline, combining for 30 kills.

Hannah Balfour contributed 45 assists, while Kira Belden had three aces for the Cavs (5-1).

Boys Soccer

Manchester West 1, Hollis Brookline 0

The Cavaliers were unable to put together consecutive victories, falling to Manchester West on Friday. Scott Stone had a solid game at midfield for the Cavs (1-6), while Ryan Coutu had a standout game in net.

Girls Soccer

Hollis Brookline 5, Manchester West 0

Torrey Cook had a pair of goals to lead the Cavaliers to a convincing shutout victory over West on Friday.

Haley Modelski and Michele Philpot each netted goals in the victory, while Manchester West also put one on the board with an own goal. Taylor Cook, Abby Rogers and Philpot each had an assist in the victory. Olivia Cleghorn had four saves for the Cavs, who improve to 6-1.

Cross Country

Cavaliers competes at invite

The Hollis Brookline boys finished seventh at the Nashua North-South Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, while the Cavalier girls claimed 10th.

Kenny Corsetti was the top performer for the boys, finishing in 32nd place with a time of 17:48.5. For the girls, Madylin Partridge paced the Cavaliers in 34th at 21:31.2.
