Simco, HB boys close in on top spot in Division II race

The Hollis Brookline boys basketball team continues to roll on toward the Division II upcoming playoffs.

Behind electric senior forward Matt Simco, the Cavaliers put up two more wins to inch closer to the top seed in the playoffs.

Here’s a quick look at their recent action.

Bishop Brady 54

The win streak grew to ten for the Cavaliers (14-2) . An outstanding performance by Matt Simco who had 34 points to lead the way and Matt Dowling added 14.

Hollis Brookline 64,

Con Val 53

Hollis Brookline inched a step closer to the top seed in the upcoming Division II playoffs with a solid victory.

Matt Dowling led the winners with 20 points, and Matt Simco added a dozen. Thursday night, the Cavaliers host Milford in the Senior Night regular-season finale.

Hollis Brookline High football coach Chris Lones, who was outspoken early in February as he felt his players were snubbed by the selections to the CHaD East-West All-Star Game, had some good news to report.

Receiver Matt Simco has received an offer to play in the New Hampshire Vermont Maple Sugar Shrine Game.

Players are only allowed one senior all star game. Simco agreed to that game and stuck to the commitment despite later being asked to play in the CHaD game, according to Lones.

The Cavaliers wound up victor after a nail biting game. Senior Joanna Balsamo had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds on senior night. Brodie Kelley led the team with 17 points, Christina Balsamo and Elizabeth Bonnette had nine points each, and Elizabeth Atkinson had six points and 12 rebounds. Hollis Brookline finished the regular season at 16-2.
