‘Women in Wine’ to be honored during 2018 NH Wine Week

CONCORD – A powerhouse group of trailblazing female wine industry leaders and some of the most celebrated names in the wine world will descend on New Hampshire for the 13th annual New Hampshire Wine Week. The New Hampshire Liquor Commission’s weeklong celebration of wine takes place from Jan. 22-28 and features countless tastings and bottle signings at the state’s 80 New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlet locations, along with intimate wine dinners at award-winning restaurants, northern New England’s largest wine expo, the Easterseals Winter Wine Spectacular, and a special “Women in Wine” seminar. More than 60 of the world’s top winemakers will travel to the Granite State to meet with consumers throughout the week.

The commission’s special event, “Cellar Notes: Women in Wine,” is an opportunity for wine enthusiasts to hear directly from the forward-thinking women who are shaping and influencing the wine industry. The Women in Wine event, which will take place at the Puritan Backroom in Manchester on Wednesday, Jan. 24, will feature Gina Gallo, third-generation winegrower with E. & J. Gallo Winery; Dr. Laura Catena, a fourth-generation Argentine vintner with Bodega Catena Zapata and her own Luca Winery in Mendoza, Argentina; Cristina Mariani-May, CEO of Banfi Vintners in Tuscany and Cynthia Lohr, co-owner of J. Lohr Vineyards in California. Each will share personal tales of their own journeys and the critical role women have played in the wine industry-while sharing a flight of their finest wines. Along with Cellar Notes and the Easterseals Winter Wine Spectacular, the week features a vast selection of events in every corner of the state, including:

An intimate wine dinner with Jon Emmerich, winemaker for Silverado Vineyards in Napa Valley, from 6-9 p.m. at Hanover Street Chophouse in Manchester on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The event will feature a six-course dining experience paired with Silverado Vineyards wines;

From 6-8 p.m., an intimate wine dinner with Cynthia Lohr, of J. Lohr Vineyards at the Copper Door, 41 S. Broadway in Salem, on Jan. 23;

An exclusive wine dinner with Serge Dore of Serge Dore Selections and guest winemaker Benjamin Farjon, from 6-8 p.m. at Buckley’s Great Steaks in Merrimack on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The dinner will feature wines paired with multiple courses;

An in-store tasting and bottle signing with Antonio Zaccheo Jr. with Carpineto Wines,from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Manchester New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlet, 1100 Bicentennial Drive, on Jan. 23.

The centerpiece of New Hampshire Wine Week is the 15th annual Easterseals Winter Wine Spectacular. From 6-9 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 25, guests can sample delicious wine as they meet more than 60 wine personalities-all while enjoying delicious food from New Hampshire’s top restaurants. The event takes place at the Radisson Hotel Manchester. Tickets are on sale now and cost $65 for the Grand Tasting. Access to the Grand Tasting and the Bellman’s Cellar Select VIP tasting room cost $135. Proceeds benefit Easterseals New Hampshire. The commisssion will host the Bellman’s Cellar Select tasting room in the Radisson Hotel Manchester’s Ballroom, offering more space to showcase exclusive, premium wines.
