The Merrimack Lions Club is committed to supporting the Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation of NH and its mission of providing vision and hearing services to New Hampshire residents. It also supports the KidSight Program, which offers free vision screenings in schools and daycare centers. Over the past few months, the club has visited the Merrimack schools to perform more than 1,450 screenings of elementary and pre-school children to determine their vision health. Using the Spot Vision Screener device primarily to perform the screening only takes about a minute to perform. The club’s yearly visits are coordinated with the school nurse or the healthcare department. The final report for each child is given to the school nurse who then contacts the child’s parent/guardian of the results. Recently, the Lions Club has donated $8,000 to purchase the next generation of vision screeners. The current machines were purchased in 2015 and became obsolete due to changing technology. The new machine will be used in many of the area’s schools on a loan basis to perform the scheduled screenings. This donation would not have been possible had we not become a River Casino Charity Partner. The partnership spans more than four years and has enabled the club to continue serving the community’s needs during the Covid pandemic.
