Stanley Davis Fons

BEDFORD – Stanley Davis Fons, 78, died on September 21 after a long illness. The son of the late Anthony Ludwig Fons II and Edith Davis, Stan was born in St. Louis and later lived in California, where he played varsity track and tennis for Ventura High School.

He moved east to attend Yale University. At Yale, he ran on the men’s track team. In 1959 Stan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

During his internship and residency at Hartford Hospital, Stan was Assistant Professor of Anatomy at the University of Hartford.

In the early 1960s, Stan moved his family to Bedford, N.H., when he joined the staff at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. During this time he served as a Major in the N.H. National Guard.

Stan spent many years at the Elliot, serving in many capacities, including Chief of Staff and Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Department. He was instrumental in securing the hospital’s first CT scanner. For many years he taught at the Elliot Hospital radiology technician school.

Stan enjoyed history and was known for his intellect. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Lois, with whom he spent 53 loving years of marriage. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Bedford; his son, Paul, of Japan, his daughter, Gail, of Boxford, MA; grandchildren Ken and Mimi of Japan; grandchildren Christopher and Alexandra Hakusui of Boxford, MA, as well as his brother Anthony Ludwig Fons III of Avon, CT, and two nephews, Anthony Ludwig Fons IV and Christopher Fons, also of CT.
