Upcoming holiday concerts in and around the Souhegan Valley

To the Editor:

I want to give the public a run-down of some of the holiday concerts that are available to attend in the Souhegan Valley in December.

Note: These are just the ones that I personally perform in and can recommend.

? “The Messiah”– final performance Saturday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m., Mont Vernon Congregational Church. Free. 95 singers and seven-piece orchestra perform selections from this great work.

? Temple Town Band, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2 p.m., Temple Elementary School. Band plays many Christmas favorites.

? Souhegan Valley Chorus, Sunday, Dec. 8, 6 p.m., Souhegan High School, Amherst. $15 at the door. 60 singers perform variations on holiday classics. Guest stars the Milford High School Band.

? Hollis Town Band, Saturday, Dec. 14, 7 p.m., Hollis
Brookline High School, Route 122 in Hollis. Free. This is my favorite holiday concert, simply because it is the most enjoyable. It features the band and Christmas Chorus and several pieces where the band plays alone. Bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

? Milford United Methodist Church “all-church concert,” 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, River Road, Milford. Free. It features the Chancel Choir, the Praise Band, the Handbell Choir, the Church Band and a brass ensemble. The theme this year is “A Christmas Potpourri.”

There are many other musical events taking place this month. Have a very happy, musical holiday season!
