To the Editor:

Maybe it’s the sight of the Adirondack chairs outside the Mont Vernon General Store that has me appreciating summer, ice cream and the place of a general store in a small town like ours.

A good general store, like the library and the transfer station, lives at the heart of a community.

It’s one of the few places where people gather regularly, where conversation isn’t mediated by a screen, and where proprietors know their customers by name.

During its history, the Mont Vernon General Store has periodically closed its doors and the darkened building has been an empty spot in the center of our town. The team of Dan, Renea and Mike have done a beautiful job bringing it back to us. Stop in when you can.

Stay a while when you need to brighten your day.
