I am still baffled by the recent exodus from the Wilton selectman’s office. As I understand it, one takes on such a job out of a vested interest in the greater good of the town, not as a way to indulge authoritarian impulses. It seems like Butcher intended all along to create a scene–and if so, perhaps it really is a good thing that he resigned. Wilton may have only 3,000 residents, but we deserve a functional and productive selectman’s office.
