Override veto

On behalf of the New Hampshire Sustainable Energy Association and our hundreds of business and individual members, I call on the New Hampshire Legislature to override the vetoes of SB446 and SB365 on Thursday 9/13.

We and our members support a strong economic future for the Granite State that is built on locally-produced, renewable energy that keeps our energy dollars in state. SB446 provides a prime opportunity to achieve this by raising the cap on net metering, removing an arbitrary limit and allowing businesses and municipalities to invest in properly sized renewable energy projects to lower their own costs. With a fiscal note showing no cost to the state or ratepayers this bill is not picking winners and losers, it is a win-win for New Hampshire.

SB365 also supports important renewable energy resources, jobs, economic activity and energy diversity in NH. With important implications for our in-state energy generation capacity, and our forestry, tourism, and recreation industries, the veto of this bill must be overridden. It comes down to “pay me now or pay me later” – and smart policy designates that we invest in New Hampshire now so we don’t have to pay for a mistake later.

We support New Hampshire jobs and New Hampshire energy, and we ask all legislators to join us to override the vetoes.
