Kind gesture

As a candidate for office, I was prohibited from handling ballots in the recent election, which is normally part of my duties as a Ward 3 Selectwoman. So, after the polls closed, one of my tasks was to record write-in candidates that were on the Republican ballot. My fellow selectwoman read the names, and I wrote them down on a tally sheet. It’s pretty mundane work as she would announce each name and then spell it. As I listened and wrote, she said, Brian Kinney – BRIAN KINNEY. It was duly noted, just a name in a long list of names with one vote beside it. That was until this morning when I opened The Telegraph and saw that Brian Kinney was a BG graduate who was tragically killed in the 9/11 attacks. What a kind and fitting tribute on Election Day, Sept. 11, 2018, to write in the name of a friend or loved one who had died on the same day 17 years ago. I didn’t want the gesture to go unnoticed.
