Fisher announces candidacy

My fellow Americans, My name is Chris Fisher, and I intend to run for Congress in 2020.

I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. Even if a political party chose to nominate me, I would reject the nomination. I am an American, and that is how I intend to run. I do not claim to represent a group of people, only a set of ideals. I believe in freedom, in human rights, in equality of opportunity. I believe that We the People are the fourth check and balance to our Government, and we have forgotten our power, our Right, our responsibility; it’s time we take it back.

In this heavily political climate, I would like to take some time to shed some light on things I feel are neglected. I believe one of the core issues in America today is culture; the consumerist, replace rather than repair, have to have it, instant gratification culture that technology and social media have created. We have allowed Corporations to dictate to us how we should live our lives, and what we should aspire to. The constant bombardment of media pounding images of what our lives should be like, convincing us that we have to have it, what ever it is. We are being farmed by Corporations for our labor, at the expense of our children, our future; it’s time we break the cycle.

In my first letter, I spoke briefly about the power of Family. I believe Family is where it all starts and ends; Family is the first teacher we all have. It teaches us critical life lessons about how to conduct ourselves, how to interact with the world around us, and how to treat other people and ourselves. The strength of the Family is being undone and undermined by the need of two or more incomes to maintain a household. Every child wants to grow up to be like their hero, and every child’s first hero is their parents. Parents being forced out of the home to eke out a living and provide for their families can leave a void for a new hero to fill. More and more of our youth, our future, are engrossed in social media and technology. These platforms allow exposure to nigh infinite possible heroes to idolize, most of which no one should aspire to be like. The lack of quality, real life heroes for children to look up to is resulting in rapid degradation of family values; a critical foundational component to a successful America.

I believe what makes America truly the greatest country in the world is not our military might or our global influence; it is the strength and content of our Character, as a Nation. America’s strength comes from the strength of the Individuals and our ability to work together. Lead by example with me; stand with me, whether you agree with my political views or not, and fight for what you believe in. I believe, to strengthen America at its core, we must work towards re-instilling the power of Family. I am not so naïve as to believe that I alone can change the world, We must do that together. I ask you to stand with me, as Americans, and be the change you want to see.
