What has happened to the GOP?

The Republican caucus has voted to shut down the legislature by not agreeing to a rules change that would extend the legislative calendar because of the three month hiatus due to COVID-19.

This Republican strategy means no legislation will be passed in 2020.

Do the Republicans think the voters will re-elect them this fall if they do not do their work and legislate? Do they think voters are stupid? Are they unaware of their constitutional duty to protect the public health and welfare?

Why are the Republicans stopping the House from meeting to pass legislation?

Is there a role for Gov. Sununu to play here? He could encourage the Republican caucus to do its job. I hope he does that. But I suppose it could be that Governor Sununu would be happiest if the House did not meet because that would mean not a single bill would come to his desk and he would not have to veto any bills in this election year, unlike last year when he vetoed 57 bills (many of which would have been helpful to New Hampshire folks during this time of COVID-19).

Gov. Sununu needs to show us whether he has the interests of the people of New Hampshire at heart in this matter or not.
