Dear Gov. Sununu

First let me say that I have generally been favorably impressed with how you have handled the State of New Hampshire’s response to COVID. And I am not even a Republican. I hope knowing that will not prejudice your reading of this message.

I am writing to let you know of my extreme frustration with the COVID vaccine rollout. Please feel free to skip to the last paragraph where I cut to the chase. The rest is for context.

I am a retired software professional, and the CDC website is an absolute disgrace. Whoever paid for it should demand their money back. It was a confused mess. Without the tips message from the State of NH it would have been impossible to navigate. I did manage to obtain an appointment which was supposed to be today, Feb. 16, at 1:20 p.m.

Imagine my dismay yesterday when I received both an email and text message from the State of NH telling me that my appointment was cancelled due to the winter storm. I was assured someone would call me to reschedule. And I was asked to be patient. So here I am at approximately 10:30 am a day later and I still haven’t gotten a call. But last night I did get a reminder from the CDC that I had an appointment today and asking me to re-enter information I had already given them. This left me confused. Did I have an appointment or not? I had considered simply going to the designated vaccine site at the scheduled time, since that seemed about as good a plan as any but WMUR reported the vaccine sites really are all closed. So I am waiting. Patiently. Maybe you guys could throw in a few “thoughts and prayers” for we seniors while you’re at it.

So here are my grievances:

1: Why was there no Plan B, other than cancellation? We live in NH, not Texas, for pity’s sake. Winter storms happen. Often.

2: There is absolutely NO REASON the Nashua sites can’t be open this afternoon. This storm would have caused at most a 2-hour delay in school openings. This approach would have inconvenienced far fewer people, making re-scheduling much less daunting and would also probably result in fewer COVID cases and deaths in the coming weeks.

3: The complete lack of coordination between what the State of NH is doing and what the CDC thinks is going on needs to be addressed immediately. Life is stressful enough without this kind of confusion.
