HB football cruises; field hockey makes D-II tournament

Football

HB 50, West 20

MANCHESTER – Hollis Brookline QB Joey Delaney was a busy man Oct. 14. Then again, his teammates didn’t get much rest either in a 50-20 win over Manchester West that saw every available Cavalier take the field.

Finding their way into the end zone for HB were Derek Davidson (two touchdowns), Matt Simco (two TDs), Brian Delaney, Jason Mansinon and Jack Byrne.

Four of those seven scores came through the air courtesy of Joey Delaney, as the Cavaliers improved to 5-2 heading into next week’s game against Pelham (2-4) in Hollis. West is now 0-7 and will visit Windham (6-0) on Oct. 22.

Field Hockey

HB 2, Oyster River 1

The Cavaliers ended the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Oyster River in Durham on Oct. 13.

The Bobcats scored first, just five minutes into the game. Shortly thereafter, HB responded with a goal by Megan McLaughlin (assisted by Sofia Barassi). Several minutes later, McLaughlin dished the ball to Gabi Frugard, who expertly tapped in a goal for a 2-1 the Cavs would never relinquish. Meg Corban and Meghan Hill played well defensively for HB.

The Cavaliers finished as the No. 9 seed in Division II and played at No. 8 Sanborn on Thursday. Results were not available by Hollis Brookline Journal presstime. If Hollis Brookline managed a win, the Cavs will play in the D-II quarterfinals at No. 1 Derryfield on Sunday at 2 p.m.
