Thank you to the voters of Wilton

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the voters of Wilton for coming out so decisively in support of the preservation of Frye Field. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to protect one of the most scenic spots in New Hampshire.

The town of Wilton is now able to help secure the conservation easement for only five cents on the dollar. Wilton’s $80,000 investment will be leveraged by more than $1 million in federal funding and private donations.

I am relieved that the voters of Wilton did not buy the argument that Frye Field was needed for development.

Wilton has a sufficient supply of developable land, and before we invite people over, we ought to make sure our home looks nice.

I would not have voted for the preservation of Frye Field if I did not believe there would be a significant public benefit.

The conservation easement will preserve the land for hiking, fishing, farming, well head protection, open space and wildlife. It will improve the property values for those of us who live in Wilton and generations to come.
